About Stratford Housing Authority

The Stratford Housing Authority is a quasi-public corporation that was established in 1943. A Board of five Commissioners, appointed by the Town Council, is responsible for oversight and establishing policy. The administrative functions are performed by a staff of 21. The Authority is independent from the Town of Stratford and is regulated by the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the State of Connecticut through the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) and the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA).

The mission of the Authority is to provide affordable housing to low and moderate income families and senior citizens.

The Authority owns and manages 514 family and elderly apartments, and, through the Federal Housing Choice Voucher Program, assists another 280 families residing in private apartments in the Town of Stratford. The Authority is also contracted to manage, throughout the greater Bridgeport area, in excess of 600 apartments operated by the State Department of Social Services Federal Housing Voucher Program through J. D'Amelia & Associates of Waterbury, Connecticut.
